Event insurance coverages
When every little detail matters
With over 10 years of experience offering special event insurance, we know things don’t always go as planned. This is why we offer 2 types of event insurance to offer total protection for your event:
- Event liability coverage
- Event cancellation coverage
Event liability insurance
Markel Specialty's event liability insurance provides coverage for damages for which you are responsible if there is an accident at your event that causes injury or property damage. Event liability insurance provides the following:
- Bodily injury and property damage liability – up to $2 million in coverage can be purchased anytime up to 1 day before your event.
- Host liquor liability insurance – coverage can be removed if you will not be serving alcohol at your event, saving you even more!
- Primary coverage – if you have a covered claim, your Markel Specialty event insurance policy will pay first before any other insurance policy kicks in.
- Event cancellation add-on – for only $50, you can add $5,000 of event cancellation coverage to your Markel Specialty event liability policy.
Additional insured? No problem.
Many venues now require you to show proof of event liability insurance with their venue listed. Usually you’ll see the venue named as “additional insured” on the certificate of insurance. Unlike other event insurance providers, we include this coverage with your policy at no extra cost.
Best of all, Markel Specialty's event liability coverage is guaranteed to meet your venue’s insurance requirements, or your money back! Polices start as low as $75!
Business and corporate event insurance
Markel Specialty also offers liability coverage for your business and corporate events*. Examples of some of the business events we cover include:
- Business dinners
- Business meetings
- Corporate private parties
- Fundraiser dinners
- Non-profit functions
Event cancellation insurance
If you need to cancel or postpone, many vendors do not offer refunds. However, if you purchased Markel Specialty's event cancellation coverage, you’d be protected! Our event cancellation protection covers non-refundable deposits and non-reimbursable expenses if your event is cancelled or postponed due to an unforeseen circumstance such as:
- Vendor bankruptcy
- Military deployment
- Accident or illness of host or honoree or immediate family member
- Extreme weather such as a hurricane or even a named tropical storm, or monster snow storm
Markel Specialty's event cancellation insurance even protects you if you choose to go forward with your event despite unexpected setbacks. Did the reception hall just file for bankruptcy? Just found out your photographer has gone out of business and now you’re scrambling for a replacement? We’ve got you covered and will help you with the extra costs you've incurred to have your event go on as planned. Event cancellation insurance will also provide coverage for such things as:
- Damage to special attire
- Vendor no-show
- Lost or damaged photography
- Lost or damaged videography
- Lost or damaged gifts
Every special event is different. Markel Specialty's event cancellation insurance can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your special event, either with special policy limits or by including event liability coverage (which many venues now require). Policy limits are determined according to total event budget. Take a look at some of the additional areas of coverage we offer:
In the event that your professional photographer doesn’t show up, we make sure it’s not a total loss. You’re covered for the amount you agreed to in your contract and for loss or damage to the original film or digital files before you receive them, including video.
Loss of deposits
Often, the bulk of your expenses are vendor deposits. If a vendor is a no-show, goes out of business or fails to provide the contracted services, we’ll reimburse you, up to your policy limits.
Special attire and jewelry
We will pay the cost to replace if lost or damaged prior to the event up to your policy limit. The same goes for jewelry worn just for your event. And those special heirlooms or attire are even insured for seven days prior to your event.
For the seven days before and the seven days after your event, we cover the cost to repair or replace lost or damaged gifts. This includes while the gifts are in the insured’s home or in a locked vehicle.
Cancellation should be your last resort. Our coverage gives you the option to make last-minute changes so that your event can go on.
Planning a large event can be an emotionally taxing time. If a medical professional recommends counseling due to the cancellation or postponement of your event, we’ll cover the cost of therapy for up to one year from the date of the event.
Exactly how much coverage do you need? Look at the chart below, which states coverage limits based on your total overall event budget.
