About Karen
Karen has been involved in the horse world since she was a young, horse crazy girl. It seemed like a few innocent riding lessons, but once she discovered the thrill of competition, it wasn't long before she was showing whatever and wherever she could. Her show career began with the local gaming shows and once she became involved with 4H, she discovered showmanship, trail, horsemanship and tried them all. She learned to love a multi-event horse and still does to this day. In her quest to add events to her all around horses, Karen started taking lessons at a hunter barn and discovered the world of working hunters. It wasn't long before she focused on show ring hunters, but also enjoyed a good fox hunt in the fall.
Growing up just 2 miles from Pennsylvania's legendary Willow Brook Farm, it wasn't long before she was introduced to the event of reining. She bought her first reiner from Willow Brook, showed her first reiner there and won her first NRHA event right there at Willow Brook. Over twenty years later she still enjoys the thrill of competition and focuses on reiners and NRHA events. She is a two-time NRHA World Champion, multiple NRHA Futurity and Derby finalist as well as an 11 time All American Quarter Horse Congress reserve champion. When she is not riding or showing, she enjoys covering events and recounting historical equine events for publications, including the NRHA Reiner, the AQHA Journal, Quarter Horse News, and several international equine publications.
