Shane Minnix, Director of Underwriting - Farm Programs
Shane came to Richmond, Virginia in 2015, to concentrate on the Property & Casualty branch of the Ag Division here at Markel. He is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio and has over 15 years of experience in insurance, with 11 of those years in the Ag insurance industry. Shane graduated Cum Laude from Xavier University with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration – Management with a minor in Economics and also holds a CPCU, AFIS and API designation. He enjoys all the disciplines of the insurance world including marketing, technology, organizational efficiencies and of course underwriting. Shane hopes to bring all the key successes of those disciplines together to continue to provide a quality product and ever improving service to our agents and insureds.
Emily Springman, Farm & Liability Underwriter
Emily joined Markel in 2004 after finishing her degree at Murray State University. She began working with the equine mortality products and has transitioned to an underwriting position for property and casualty risks within the agriculture division at Markel. She shares a passion for horses as due many of her colleagues. Emily works directly with preferred agents and equine field specialists. She works with a team of horse experts to help develop them into true insurance specialists and to grow a profitable book of equine related business.

Michelle Ruff, Associate Underwriter
Michelle grew up in the Northern Neck of Virginia. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor’s in Economics and in German, and joined Markel in 2012. She currently competes in FEI level dressage with her own mare, and is a USDF Bronze and Silver medalist. She brings her riding background to Markel, where she works on Farm, Liability, and Mortality accounts for the dressage and sport horse specialists.
