As a result of recent weather activity, binding authority has been suspended in some areas.
Tropical Storm: AL, LA, MS, TX
In accordance with company policy, and as a result of Tropical Storm Barry, binding authority has been suspended for any new BOP, commercial property, dwelling, marine, builder's risk, and stationary inland policies in the following locations for all new business:
- Alabama (marine only)
- Texas – Coastal counties down through Brazoria County
In addition, Markel is unable to accept requests to increase limits, additional liabilities, or additional locations to any existing policy at this time. These restrictions shall remain in effect until 24 hours after the storm is no longer considered to be a hurricane or tropical storm by the National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center. All quotations and authorizations covering risks in these areas shall be suspended and will not be able to be honored during this period.
Earthquake: CA, NV
Given recent seismic activity in California and Nevada, Markel is suspending the issuance or binding of any new BOP, commercial property, dwelling, builder's risk, and stationary inland policies in the counties named below:
- California - Fresno, Inyo, Los Angeles, Kern, Kings, San Bernadino, Tulare
- Nevada - Clark, Esmeralda, Nye
This moratorium is effective immediately.
This moratorium includes increasing limits and/or adding locations on existing/renewal property policies. We are committed to supporting our customers and partners and will honor any outstanding renewal quotes. This moratorium is in effect until July 26 at 11:59 p.m., EDST - unless otherwise modified. If this moratorium is extended, then you will receive an additional communication to that effect.
