1. Louisville Riverwalk, KY

The Louisville Riverwalk includes 8 miles of paved trail that travels through downtown Louisville along the Ohio River. On this trail you will experience scenic river views, coal barges, boats, and an overlook of McAlpine Lock & Dam. You will also have access to parks. It’s a great route for beginning bikers.

2. Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, Cataldo, Idaho

This 71 mile paved path is best explored over a few days to take in all the beautiful landscapes and local attractions. The trail winds through scenic mountains, valleys, rolling foothills, breathtaking lake views, Idaho’s Silver Valley, forests, riversides and marshlands. As you ride, you may come across a variety of wildlife including moose, otters, coyotes and black bears. You’ll even get to experience the Center of the Universe in Wallace, Idaho. Note, drinking fountains are unavailable on the trail, but you can stop at one of the many businesses to refill your water bottle.

3. Richmond Battlefield Cruise, Richmond, VA

This is a great route to experience history. Richmond Battlefield Cruise is a flat trail with moderate hills located 10 miles southeast of Richmond. It takes you through Civil War historic forts, Richmond National Battlefield Park, Malvern Hill Battlefield, and Glendale Visitor Center and National Cemetery. Dory Park is a great place to stop for lake views and picnic areas.

4. Palisades Interstate Park, NJ

Henry Hudson Drive in Palisades Interstate Park winds along the Hudson River for 7 miles and offers phenomenal views of the Palisades cliffs. The roadway provides access to many picnic areas and historic sites. The road accommodates both bikes and cars during the day and is only open mid-April to mid-November. Because it is situated along the Palisades cliffs, it is conducive to mudslides and falling rocks.

5. Lilydale Park Trail, St. Paul, MN

This 14-mile road bike trail is one of the best in Minnesota. It runs along the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers and boasts beautiful scenic overlooks and the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife. The trail is open from April until October.
