As part of an annual tradition, Markel employees in Omaha hosted another Creating Christmas event at the Omaha Children’s Museum on December 6th. Around 30 Markel employees and their families volunteered their evening during this busy time of year to create a magical night for 300+ less fortunate Omaha area children and parents.
In collaboration with local non-profit, Partnership for Kids, children from local schools and homeless shelters were invited to the museum to spend an evening with Santa and have full access to the exhibits, carousel and train rides. Guests were treated by Markel volunteers with pizza, desserts and refreshments. Special wrapped gifts provided by Markel were given to each child who waited in line to see Santa. Other volunteers from Trailblazers of the Heartland provided transportation for families, to and from the event.
The Santa for the event was Kevin Maas, Sr. Product Manager, Markel Specialty Commercial. Kevin has volunteered as Santa for 6 years in a row, making children feel important as he listened to all their wishes carefully. Santa’s elves, children of Jaclyn Tiger, Supervisor, MFC Claims, kept the line moving quickly so everyone had a chance to visit with him. In the 10 years of this special event, Markel has hosted 2,500+ guests.
“It is always humbling to see our associates’ dedication, compassion, and drive to serve – the event would not be possible without our generous volunteers and their families taking the time out during the busy holiday season to spread the Markel Holiday Spirit!”, said Michaela Morrison, Director, MFC Underwriting Analytics. Thanks to Michaela’s leadership, volunteer coordination and event details have continued to run smoothly year after year.
